Fire safety

We recommend that you use smoke alarms in the main rooms of your home. They should meet the British Standard 5446: Part 1, and have the British Standard Kitemark.

You should change the battery each year, unless you use 10-year batteries.

Test the battery each month and keep the alarm clean by vacuuming the inside regularly.

The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service suggests that as well as following their rules for preventing fires, you should make a fire-safety plan for your home, so that everyone in your home knows what to do in an emergency.
