Minor Adaptations – £1,000 to £7,500

The Councils offer grants for minor changes to be made to a home. This can help people to deal with the challenges of living at home, with a long term health condition.

The grants are open to all homeowners, private tenants and Babergh and Mid Suffolk council tenants.

To apply for the grant, you will need to submit an application form (available below). You will also need a letter from your GP (or specialist) confirming your diagnosis and proof of property ownership.

Grants are available between £1,000 and £7,500.  A maximum of £7,500 can be granted to an individual in a three-year period, for the following:

Housing Assistance Policy

Our Housing Assistance Policy can give assistance to disabled residents to improve accessibility to and suitability of their home.

The policy can:

  • enable residents to remain living independently in their own home
  • help prevent hospital, care home or residential home admissions
  • facilitate the prompt discharge of residents from hospital
  • prevent the need for increased expenditure elsewhere in the ‘Suffolk System’, including Health and Social Care.
