New Chairman of Mid Suffolk chooses local charity

Cllr Barry Humphreys MBE, Councillor for Chilton, Stowmarket has been elected Chairman of Mid Suffolk District Council and has selected Stowmarket Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) as his chosen charity for the year.

Cllr Humphreys was elected Chair of Mid Suffolk District Council at the Annual Council meeting on 24 September 2020. He succeeds Cllr Lavinia Hadingham, who stepped down following her 2019/20 term as Chairman.

Cllr Humphreys who was awarded his Military Division MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2013, was first elected to Mid Suffolk District Council in 2014, representing Chilton Ward.  As a member of the Council he has also served as Vice-Chair of Mid Suffolk’s District Council 2019/20 with his predecessor and served on the Council’s Development Control B Committee.

It is traditional for the Chairman to support a charity during their term of office.  The Stowmarket Dementia Action Alliance charity promotes purpose and hope for individual and families with dementia. supporting people living with dementia, their care partners, their circle of influence and dementia specialists to create a better world in which to live with dementia.

Cllr Humphreys MBE, Chairman said:

“I decided that I would like to support the Stowmarket Dementia Action Alliance. They do great work in the local community and have helped many who suffer with this terrible disease and have helped to make Stowmarket a more dementia friendly community. I have supported them previously and helped fund dementia friendly film events in the local cinema – a huge success that I hope will continue and I would be delighted to fund.”

Fiona Palmer, Chair of Stowmarket Dementia Action Alliance, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected and would like to thank Cllr Humphreys for choosing us as this year’s Chairman’s charity. We have been part of the Stowmarket community since 2015 helping to make it a “dementia friendly town.”

 

 

Stowmarket Dementia Action Alliance is a local action alliance which is working towards making Stowmarket a dementia friendly town where people living with dementia and their carers feel valued, involved and part of their local community.
