Mid Suffolk District Council has submitted an expression of interest application for additional funding from the government’s Future High Streets Funds.
The expression of interest submission, backed by local community groups and businesses will, if successful, kick-start the full funding application. The application stage will allow the council to presents its business case and move forward with the plans and initiatives proposed in the Stowmarket Vision for Prosperity 5-Year Action Plan.
The Future High Streets Fund will provide co-funding of capital projects with the aim of supporting significant local authorities' transformation projects, to revolutionise the districts’ town centres.
Many high streets across the country are facing significant challenges and the additional funding to support the future of Stowmarket’s town centre will help bring together an innovative programme of projects. The additional resource will help secure the town’s long-term vision as the main centre in the district and demonstrate the council and it’s partners’ commitments to delivering investment in the town.
Cllr Gerard Brewster, Mid Suffolk District Council Cabinet Member for Economy, said: “The possibility of being able to apply for this additional funding resource would be a great boost to our hopes for our 5-year Action plan being achieved. Like other town centres, our high street needs the support to regenerate and help the community to thrive in a very challenging environment. But we believe, we have a very strong case with some fantastic projects proposals to present.”
