Mid Suffolk Litter Awareness second prize Winner Announced

Posted by on 16 July 2018 | Comments

A special second place prize was awarded Marley Sommer for her entry in the 2018 Annual Litter Awareness Competition Mid Suffolk Council.

Mendlesham Primary School pupil Marley Sommer, aged 4, was awarded a second-place for her entry in the Mid Suffolk District Council Competition

Marley was presented her certificate and prize, a laminated poster of her design, by Cllr David Burn, Mid Suffolk District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Countryside Officer David Hughes on Friday 13th July 2018. Betsy Dean, Rosa Stocker, and Mollie Ling year six students also received a Highly Commended certificate for their designs.

Cllr Burn said, “I was thrilled to be able to offer a second place prize this year. The standard of entries was exceptional and our first and second place entries were very close, this prize is well deserved.

This competition continues to be part of the much wider push to reduce littering in our district and the enthusiasm and creativity the children always bring to the task makes me confident that we as a community can really hit back against littering throughout Mid Suffolk.”

Pupils were asked to think about the impact that littering has on the environment and the knock-on effects for both people and animals.  It is hoped that by engaging with children of this age group they will not become litter droppers of the future.
