The districts of Babergh and Mid Suffolk are the home to some of the most important and distinctive listed buildings in the country.  Our historic environment is a precious and finite resource as well as a powerful reminder of the work and way of life of earlier generations.  The beauty and unique character of many of our towns and villages are enhanced because of these listed buildings.

Our districts are also home to 60 Conservation Areas. Conservation Areas are areas designated by the local planning authority for their special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which is desirable to preserve or enhance.

The aim of the Heritage service at Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council is to provide assistance and guidance to owners of historic buildings and properties within Conservation Areas to help them conserve and enhance our built heritage and to increase public awareness, appreciation and understanding of the historic environment.
