Boosting biodiversity by funding nature in your neighbourhood

Local groups are being urged to apply for new funding from Mid Suffolk District Council, designed to connect people with nature and restore natural habitats within communities.

Mid Suffolk’s new Community Nature Recovery Grant, which launched today (Monday), offers up to £50k for projects that protect and expand wildlife corridors and habitats within the district – including tree planting, wildflower meadow creation, or other environmental initiatives to safeguard natural spaces for future generations.

As well as boosting biodiversity by working in partnership with charities and organisations such as environmental groups, schools and town and parish councils, the scheme will help to restore natural ecosystems and create opportunities for residents to ‘get back to nature’.

Cllr Tim Weller, Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture and Wellbeing, said: “We want to support local environmental projects that improve the wellbeing of our district as well as those who live and work here.
“The critical role of biodiversity to the healthy functioning of our ecosystems, wellbeing, economy, and wider environmental resilience is increasingly well understood and acknowledged.
“This funding is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to take action on biodiversity and create their own thriving habitats – ensuring the resources we enjoy today are preserved for generations to come.”
