Our commitment to Climate Change and Nature Recovery Page

At Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, we are committed to creating a greener, healthier and more sustainable future for our communities.

In 2019, we declared a Climate Emergency and committed to reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting Suffolk's ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. This commitment shapes how we make decisions, deliver services and plan for the long-term wellbeing of our residents and environment.

Acting on climate change

Our refreshed Carbon Reduction Management Plan sets out how we are leading local climate action across both districts. This includes reducing emissions from our buildings and operations, improving energy efficiency, supporting sustainable travel, reducing waste, and working with partners to invest in low-carbon solutions.

These actions reflect our responsibility as public sector leaders and our commitment to preparing our communities for a changing climate.

Protecting and restoring nature

Tackling climate change goes hand in hand with caring for the natural environment. Our Biodiversity Action Plan sets out how we will protect wildlife, enhance habitats and support nature recovery across Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

From improving green spaces to strengthening local ecosystems, we are working to ensure nature can thrive alongside our towns and rural communities.

Working together for a sustainable future

Real progress comes through collaboration. We work closely with residents, community organisations, local businesses and partners across Suffolk to deliver climate and nature action at every level.

Together, we are building resilient, low-carbon communities that benefit current and future generations.
