Paying Council Tax in Babergh

If you are having payment difficulties please complete our online Council Tax enquiry form so that we can get in touch with you to discuss your options. You will need your Council Tax account reference number to hand.

You can pay your Council Tax:

  • annually
  • in two half yearly instalments or
  • by 10 monthly instalments

Payment is due in April if you would like to pay your Council Tax annually. If you choose to pay in 2 half yearly instalments, your first instalment is due in April, and the second instalment is due in October.

Payment for 10 monthly instalments is due on the 1st of the month. You can arrange to pay over 12 months. To set this up please complete a general enquiry form

If you experience any difficulty making payment, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible. Please do not wait for a Reminder Notice to arrive. If you contact us before recovery proceedings commence, it may be possible to agree a payment arrangement.

Direct Debit

Take the worry out of bill paying and let your bank or building society pay your Council Tax instalments directly to us. You can choose to pay by direct debit on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd or 28th of each month.

If you would like to pay using your debit or credit card, please call 0300 123 4000 (Option 1)

This is a 24-hour automated system.

You will need your Council Tax account number, which is shown on your bill.

Pay by bank transfer or standing order

The details you will need are:

  • Sort code 30-98-31
  • Account number 01217231

You will also need to quote your Council Tax account number for each payment. Remember that payments can take a number of working days to reach us.

At a Post Office or Paypoint

You can pay using cash only at any Post Office using the barcode on your Council Tax bill. It can take up to 5 working days for your payment to reach us.
