A message from our Chair on the 80th anniversary of VE Day
07/05/25
Ahead of the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, 8 May, Cllr Elisabeth Malvisi has issued a message to mark the occasion.
Babergh District Council Chair, Cllr Elisabeth Malvisi, said:
“Few of those who fought in World War II are still with us today – but we still remember those who gave their lives, and the years of action, adversity and hardship endured by their generation.
"As well as celebrating the anniversary of the end of the war in Europe, we also remember the dangers of authoritarianism and fascism and the sacrifices made in order for democracy to prevail.”
In addition to the national celebrations, there are local events taking place at schools, nursing homes, churches and village halls across our region. Find out more: VE Day 2025 Celebrations & Events Across the UK - VE Day 80
