Affordable Housing

List of Registered Providers

Registered providers (RPs) include local authority landlords and private registered providers (such as not-for-profit housing associations and for-profit organisations) and is a term set out in the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008.

Not-for-Profit housing associations have grown from philanthropic roots to provide quality affordable homes for around six million people. Many have charitable status or a community benefit interest. They invest any revenue surpluses they make back into new affordable housing, the people and communities they serve.

For-Profit housing associations were allowed for within the 2008 Housing and Regeneration Act. Most for-profit RPs are established as companies limited by shares and – critically, are permitted to distribute dividends to their shareholders.

The Council works with both Not-for-profit and For-profit RP’s.
