The Shimpling Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) is being prepared by Shimpling Parish Council and the local community. When complete, it will be used to help guide and shape future development in the designated plan area.

Reg 16 Submission consultation (13 July to 4 Sept 2026)

The Shimpling NDP was submitted to Babergh District Council in late May 2026. In accordance with Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended), this draft Plan is now being made available for public consultation. Specifically, written comments are invited on how this draft Plan meets the basic condition tests set out in paragraph 8 of the Town and Country Planning Act (as amended).

The consultation period runs from Monday 13 July until 4:00pm on Friday 4 September 2026.

A list of the submitted documents appears below. Our Public Notice explains how copies of the submitted plan can be accessed locally.

As mentioned, an assessment on how this NDP meets the basic condition tests is a key part of the examination process, which will follow this consultation exercise. At this stage, our checks suggest that the relevant procedural requirements have been met. See our Regulation 15 Checklist.

All comments must be made in writing and must be received by the consultation deadline. Comments cannot be treated as confidential, and, with the exception of personal contact details, they will be published on this page at the end of the consultation period. As part of your response, you can state if you wish to be notified when we publish the examination report and if/when this NDP is adopted by Babergh District Council.

SEA/HRA Screening and Determination (Mar 2026)

The pre-submission draft Shimpling NDP was screened to determine whether a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and or a Habitats Assessment (HRA) were required. Both were 'screened out'. The relevant reports and our determination notice are published below:
