Our street cleaning service

An effective street cleaning service is important, as it helps us to maintain an environment that we would all like to live in.

We carry out street cleaning regularly, as a routine. We also reactively clean adopted roads and footpaths throughout the districts.

Generally, town centres are cleaned every day. Rural areas are cleaned when needed.

Different areas of the districts have different cleaning routines. However, it is important that the schedules of our street cleaning teams are flexible – we do not clean a street that does not need cleaning.

We do not clear leaves from private property, or grass areas. The only exceptions to this rule are our sheltered housing sites, or public parks that we own.

As a council, we do our best to keep our districts clean. If you report areas (or we find areas) with a problem, we will deal with them outside of our usual schedule.

We carry out mechanical sweeping of all kerbed and drained roads two to three times per year.

Make a street cleaning report

If you see something that you think we need to clean, you can report it via our online form. Use this form to report:

  • dead animals
  • dog fouling, or overflowing dog litter bins
  • litter, or an overflowing litter bin

Debris, weeds and mud on the road
