If you discover waste that has been fly-tipped, please let us know by reporting it as soon as possible.

Do not touch the waste. It may contain syringes, toxic chemicals or other hazardous substances. Do not disturb the site - there may be evidence which could identify the fly-tippers, and lead to their prosecution.

Please make a note of the date and time that you found the tipping, as well as its exact location (and whether it is in, or near water).

Take photos of the tipping, if it is safe to do so.

Report fly-tipping

If the incident is still in progress - and if it is safe for you to do so - call the police.

Preventing fly-tipping

Fly-tipping is illegal. Offenders could face a large fine, or even go to prison.

Everyone has a duty of care to make sure that all waste from your household or business is disposed of correctly.

Please read our guidance on preventing fly-tipping for more information

Report littering

Littering is a criminal offence and you could receive an on-the-spot Fixed Penalty Notice of £80. You may also be prosecuted - and fined up to £2,500.

Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight 2026

Fly-tipping is a #RubbishDeal for all of us — for residents, for our council and for our local environment. It’s time we all took action to protect the places we love.

Fly-tipping has hit a record high, with 1.26 million incidents recorded in a single year — an increase of 9%. This blights our streets, parks, and countryside, while draining vital council resources and leaving taxpayers to pick up the bill.

Watch out for rogue traders

A big part of the problem comes from rogue waste collectors who prey on moments when people need rubbish gone quickly. Today, more people are finding waste collectors through social media and AI search tools — making independent verification more important than ever.

A cheap, convincing or professional-looking advert does not necessarily mean the operator is legitimate. These rogue traders take your money and dump your waste illegally in a nearby street, lay-by or park. What seems like a quick bargain is actually a #RubbishDeal.

Remember: If you pay someone to take your waste away and they fly-tip it, you could still be held responsible and face a fine.

Join the Fight: 12–25 October 2026

We’re proud to join forces with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy to support Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight (12–25 October 2026). Together, we’re calling on everyone in Babergh and Mid Suffolk to check who you pay to take your rubbish away.

Protect yourself. Protect your community. Protect your local public services.

Three simple checks

If you’re hiring someone to clear your waste, always follow these three steps before handing over any rubbish or money:

  1. Ask for a waste carrier licence.
  2. Check the number on the Environment Agency’s public register or phone 0300 065 3000
  3. Check you’ll get a receipt or official record for the waste transfer.

Say NO to a #RubbishDeal

Join us in the fight against fly-tipping. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
