What you need to know
From 1 October 2023, legislation has come into force that fundamentally shifts the emphasis on the role of the client, their agent and Building Control.
Clear requirements regarding dutyholders and their competence have been introduced. Four dutyholders roles have now been defined. We have created guides to the dutyholders roles and requirements below:

Where any of the dutyholders change after the building regulation application has been made, you should give notice to the Local Authority.

The Building Safety Regulator
From Spring 2024 all building control professionals will need to register and maintain registration with the Building Safety Regulator in order to conduct their role. Inspectors, as they will soon be known, will need to undertake regular assessments to evidence their ability to carry out the role and their knowledge of the building regulations.
